Turning Red Review

Posted by CinemacomGrounds - March 12th, 2022

I’m writing a review on Disney/Pixar’s Turning Red. The newest Pixar film as of 3/12/2022.

This movie was an unusual experience. Felt like a 3D anime film. When I heard my siblings playing the film in the other room while I made this comic, it sounded so dramatic.

Pros: I enjoyed everyone’s facial expression, especially the eyes. The animation reminds me of an anime or The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. The red panda thing is an awesome concept. The climax with the giant red panda felt like some Godzilla movie. There was a Simpsons reference at the beginning of the film.

Cons: The mother felt like a Karen. The mother/perfect daughter relationship feels like Brave all over again. The emotions to power the red panda feels like a Hulk/Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde clone. Should someone call the Canadian government or animal control on the red panda TF thing? No? Just asking. Bringing this up because it’s kinda an afterthought.

Rating: 7.1/10

Overall: I thought the movie was cool with the setting and animation. The story feels like Brave with a side of red pandas. I like the dramatic moments and this red panda curse. The idea of turning into one sounds like something a superhero would have. Friendly Neighborhood Red Panda Person, anyone? I could pause the film on any frame and the facial expression feel funny. Like Toon Link from Wind Waker.
